@redrummy Not sure it's "car culture", really.
US (& Canadian?) law forces the independent #dealership model on the car makers; it's still the case in most states. The manufacturers have only a limited ability to supervise the practices of the people providing their front-line customer experience.
And while there are some great #dealers out there, there's also a lot of snakes. And being a snake is profitable.
Dealership owners have outsize political power, so this is unlikely to change.
@redrummy Most smaller businesses are much better at providing a good customer service experience - definitely includes bike shops.
I think it's because car sales are infrequent and high-profit, so they can survive while screwing a small customer base each year. A business that needs you to come in for repeat business several times a year to make a profit can't afford to do that.
It's different if you weren't going to see that customer for another 7 years anyway.
