Hello, Mastodon! Time for my own #introduction - I am a Roman archaeologist, finishing my PhD (at U. Cincinnati) on architecture in archaic central Italy. I've dug in England, at #Vindolanda on Hadrian's Wall, in the Republic of Georgia (#Pichvnari), an in Italy at #PoggioCivitate and, primarily, at #Pompeii; my training at the latter two have particularly shaped how I see the ancient world (out of the box thinking, and expecting a site to throw just about anything at me!) @antiquidons
I'm also your friendly neighborhood adjunct, teaching Latin and archaeology at Xavier University, and still training myself to work beyond 280 characters but without going on ad nauseam...
@akpavlick @antiquidons My brief tour of Pompeii was riveting. Ah, to spend a career studying Roman archaeology.
@akpavlick @antiquidons One of the uncomfortable moments was standing next to my 22-year-old daughter as our tour guide showed us one of the brothels of Pompeii and pointed out the illustrations on the walls — a way to easily "translate" the menu for incoming sailors.
