A couple of days ago I read Harper Lee's 'Go Set A Watchman' (the sequel to 'To Kill a Mockingbird), and oh my gods.

Something happened near the middle of the book that I was not expecting. I had to set the book down for a while, and then I devoured the rest of the book in most of a single session.

It was really hard to read in some parts (lotta N-words and other nasty racist shit, from multiple characters), which is why I needed a few breaks.

I'm deeply uncomfortable, but I don't yet have the words yet to describe why. I think I have to re-read 'To Kill a Mockingbird,' then step back and think for a while.

@RamenCatholic I just read both recently. They are both like paintings, comprised mostly of scenery which Mockingbird reluctantly pulls down into a storyline, but Watchman seems happy to just wander the neighborhood looking for daisies and interesting pebbles.

@yoused I enjoyed that tapestry of memories part of 'Watchman" too.
