This is the high time of , and the Blue Jays are are looking a bit rough. But new feathers are emerging, and I always love to see the different individual ways in which they do. Plus, the ragged look makes for some interesting photos.

A molting Blue Jay with barely any head feathers left has a beak full of nuts. A nice bokeh effect is also going on with the sunshine from the back.

@Ostdrossel our cardinals are looking pretty rough as well. Especially the females.

@Ostdrossel i have figured that out. We have a pair that has been here all summer, so I’m assuming it’s their offspring!! We also had a house finch couple who had babies in our shed, so it’s been fun watching the babies grow up!!
