#OTD Claude #Monet, #French Painter & founder of #Impressionist #Painting, died.

Monet died at 86 at home in his bed. He had requested #Simplicity for his #Funeral.

But when his #Coffin appeared draped w/ a #Black cloth, Claude's great friend Georges Clemenceau could not abide the #Color. (In his work, Monet had avoided black paint.)

Georges cried, "No! No! No black for Monet!" & then replaced the black shroud with a #Flower-patterned #Curtain.
