The comment about there being no smell of cooking reminds me of the Fawlty Towers episode ‘Gourmet Night’ (no riffraff) where the new chef is drunk and incapable. Basil has to rush out to a friend’s restaurant for duck and all sorts of mishaps occur (includes famous car beating scene).
