Welcome to Penn Station, NYC. It's about 6:50 AM on March 3, 2019, and I'm waiting for a train to North Carolina. I recorded a few minutes of the station ambiance with my iPhone 8 and Shure MV88.
@BorrisInABox I don't think I've heard a US train station before, as I don't personally remember hearing this recording before.
@FreakyFwoof I don't remember if I ever posted it anywhere.
@BorrisInABox @FreakyFwoof Larger Amtrak stations are rather unique and different than other train stations.
@FreakyFwoof @BorrisInABox I posted a recording of myself riding the Washington, D.C. metro when I worked as an intern there in 2006 to the random voiceposts directory of our now-defunct TBRN folder. And writing the above makes me feel very old and a little sad.
@sclower @FreakyFwoof Simpler times back then, yes indeed.
@BorrisInABox Oh good I'm glad I'm not the only one who records place ambiances... this is so cool. :)
@BorrisInABox Your station sounds so vastly different from Paddington, unless you're not where trains are pulling in, are you in a waiting room not near tracks?
Paddington ambiance sounds like a lot of lorry/truck engines as many trains are diesel.
@FreakyFwoof Yeah. I'm not near where the trains are.
@BorrisInABox Oh, and Samantha as an announcement voice... Joyful...
@FreakyFwoof Indeed so. For a while, at Newark Penn Station, they were using Loquendo Dave.
@BorrisInABox And there's Samantha.
@BorrisInABox wow, they use that voice over voice in this thing? hahaha. the only time i heard this voice in my cuntry is when i was at a mall and there was an urjent message asking us to be out of the building. ehehe.
@lcheechau Unfortunately, yes. It's everywhere.
